9.1.8. Check of level and density of cooling liquid

In completely filled cooling system liquid level in a broad tank on the cold engine has to be 25-30 mm higher than a tag of "MIN" put on a broad tank.

Level of cooling liquid is recommended to be checked on the cold engine as when heating its volume increases and at the heated-up engine the level of liquid can rise considerably.

If necessary check the areometer density of cooling liquid which has to be 1,078–1,085 g/cm3.
If level in a tank is lower than norm, and the liquid density stated above, then add the distilled water. If density normal, add liquid of that brand which is in the cooling system. If density of liquid is lower than norm, add Tosol-A liquid.
Replacement of cooling liquid
You make replacement in the following order.

Turn off a stopper 1 (see fig. 9.11) a broad tank 2 and open the crane of a heater of salon of a body.
Remove an engine mudguard, having turned out bolts of fastening it to a body.
Put under the engine capacity for liquid discharge, turn off drain traffic jams of a radiator and the block of cylinders and merge liquid. Upon termination of discharge wrap traffic jams.
Fill in cooling liquid, previously having disconnected a hose 20 from the block of 21 heatings of the carburetor. At emergence of liquid in the block of heating put a hose into place, add liquid to normal level.
Start the engine and let's it work 1–2 min. idling for removal of air traffic jams.
Stop the engine, check liquid level. If level is lower normal, and in system there are no dribble traces, then add cooling liquid.

At the thermostat it is necessary to check temperature of the beginning of opening of the main valve and a valve stroke. Install the thermostat at the stand and lower in a tank with technical glycerin. Rest the arm rychazhok connected with an indicator leg against the main valve 9 (fig. 9.12).
Reference temperature of liquid in a tank has to be 78–80 °C. Gradually increase liquid temperature approximately by 1 °C a minute at continuous hashing that it in all volume of glycerin was identical.
That at which the course of the main valve will make 0,1 mm is accepted to temperature of the beginning of opening of the valve.
The thermostat needs to be replaced if temperature of the beginning of opening of the main valve does not correspond (87±2) °C or in case the valve stroke at temperature increase to 102 °C makes less than 8 mm.
The simplest check of serviceability of the thermostat can be carried out to the touch directly on the car. After start of the cold engine at the serviceable thermostat the lower branch pipe of a radiator has to heat up when temperature of cooling liquid reaches 87–92 °C.
Radiator and broad tank
Removal and their installation on the car is carried out on the cold engine in the following order.
Open the crane of a heater and turn off a stopper of a broad tank. Having turned off drain traffic jams of a radiator and the block of cylinders, merge cooling liquid.
Disconnect electric wires from the sensor 8 (fig. 9.11) of inclusion and from the electric fan. Disconnect hoses from a radiator 1 and a broad tank.
Turn off nuts and bolts of fastening of a casing of the 12th fan and a bracket of the top fastening of a radiator, remove a bracket and, holding a radiator, take out a casing assembled with the electric fan.
If necessary turn off fastening nuts, remove the fan and the electric motor of the fan.
Take away radiator top a little back and take out it from pillows of the lower fastening and a motor compartment (the radiator can be taken out as well assembled with the electric fan).
Take off a belt of fastening and take out a broad tank.
Carry out installation of a radiator and a broad tank upside-down.
