4.1.4. Check and adjustment of angles of installation of wheels

Check and adjustment of angles of installation of wheels is carried out at special stands according to the instruction on the stand.

       PREVENTION
Check of angles of installation of wheels is obligatory if replacement or repairs of details of a suspension bracket which can cause change of angles of installation of wheels is made.

At the new rolled car in the equipped state and with the payload of 3136 N (320 kgfs) [4 persons and 392 N (40 kgfs) of freight in a luggage carrier], the angles of installation of wheels have to have the following values:
disorder       0 ° ±30’ (30 '±30’) *
       convergence (0±1) of mm [(1,5±1) mm] *
turn axis tilt angle:
longitudinal       1 °30 '±30’ (20 '±30’) *
cross       13 °04’ (for reference)
Before adjustment of angles of installation of wheels check:
– air pressure in tires;
– radial and axial beating of disks of wheels: it should not exceed for axial – 1 mm, for radial – 0,7 mm;
– free wheeling of a steering wheel;
– a free wheeling (side play) in bearings of naves of forward wheels;
– technical condition of details and knots of a suspension bracket (lack of deformations, destruction and wear of rubber-metal hinges, inadmissible draft of the top support of a rack of a suspension bracket).
Eliminate the noticed malfunctions.
After installation of the car on the stand, just before control of corners, you "prozhmit" a car suspension bracket, putting 2–3 times the effort in 392–490 N (40–50 kgfs) directed from top to down, at first to a rear bumper, and then — on forward. At the same time wheels of the car have to settle down parallel to a longitudinal axis of the car.
During the checking and adjustment of angles of installation of wheels at first check and regulate a corner of a longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn, then a corner of disorder of wheels and in the last turn — a convergence of wheels.

If the size of a corner does not correspond to the data given above, change quantity of adjusting washers 23 (see fig. 4.1), the extensions of the 29th suspension bracket established on both ends. For increase in a corner of a longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn reduce quantity of washers on an extension in forward or its back part.
And, on the contrary, for reduction of a corner add quantity of washers, but only in a back part of an extension as in front it is not always possible to execute it because of a short carving part of an extension.
At change of quantity of washers on an extension you watch that facets on washers were turned towards a persistent end face of an extension. Follow the same rule at installation of an internal persistent washer of the rubber-metal hinge when adjusting washers are completely removed. At non-compliance with these requirements weakening of an inhaling of nuts of fastening of extensions is possible.
The quantity of adjusting washers on an extension should not be more than two pieces in front, four — behind.
In order that the provision of an extension 29 concerning the lever 22 suspension brackets did not change at adjustment of a longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn, use special adaptation which fixes an extension concerning the lever, that is does not allow turning of an extension from influence of efforts at a wraparound of a nut of fastening of an extension to the lever. This requirement needs to be observed not to allow premature wear of the rubber-metal hinge and a rubber pillow on which the ends of an extension rely.
At installation or withdrawal of one adjusting washer the corner of a longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn changes approximately on 19’.
Corner of disorder of forward wheels
If the corner of disorder differs from norm, then adjust it. For this purpose weaken nuts of the top and lower bolts and, turning the top adjusting bolt 11 (see fig. 4.1), establish a necessary corner of disorder of wheels. Upon termination of adjustment tighten nuts the moment of 88,2 N · m (9 kgfs · м).

If the size of a convergence does not meet standard, weaken nuts 4 (see fig. 5.1) and, rotating drafts 5, establish a necessary convergence. Then be convinced that the plane From the spherical hinge 2 is parallel to the plane D of a basic surface of the rotary lever 3 then tighten nuts the 4th moment of 121-150 N · m (12,3–15 kgfs · м).
